ABOUT
About this spot
Nestled in the deep greenery of Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, MIHO MUSEUM is a mystical museum built on the motif of the "Shangri-La (Peach Blossom Spring)" from a Chinese poem. The architecture by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei is about 80 percent buried underground and was meticulously designed so as not to disturb the rich surrounding nature. The approach from the Reception Hall to the main museum building is as beautiful as a scene from a movie. Climb a gentle slope, pass through a beautifully gleaming silver tunnel, and cross a suspension bridge over a deep valley, and the magnificent entrance appears before you. In the weeping cherry season in spring in particular, the pink of the cherry blossoms reflects inside the tunnel, creating a dreamlike scene. Inside, many ancient art works from around the world along the Silk Road are on display, letting you feel the breath of history in a quiet setting. We highly recommend this superb art spot to adults who want to forget daily life on the weekend and refresh in mind and body.
