ABOUT
About this spot
The Mashiko Ware Kilns Cooperative Sales Center in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture, is one of the area's largest complexes, where you can experience the charm of Mashiko ware all in one place. Across its spacious grounds, a wide variety of pieces from numerous kilns are on display, and you can shop for ones to your taste, from traditional textures to contemporary designs. The most popular attraction is the "pottery workshop," which even beginners can try easily. Whether you tackle serious throwing on an electric wheel or enjoy simple painting, you can turn your travel memories into something tangible. With friendly instruction, it is reassuring for family trips with children, girls' trips, and solo travelers alike. The giant "Big Tanuki statue" sitting outside the building is the symbol of Mashiko sightseeing and a great photo spot. A restaurant is also on site, so you can spend the whole day relaxing while savoring local flavors. It is also known as one of the main venues of the famous Mashiko Pottery Fair held in spring and autumn, a classic spot where you can feel the spirit of this craft town.
