ABOUT
About this spot
Shiobara Onsen-kyo, one of Tochigi Prefecture's leading hot springs, is a time-honored hot spring area with a history of 1,200 years. Eleven hot springs, called the "Shiobara Juichi-yu" (Eleven Springs of Shiobara), are scattered along the Hoki River gorge, each with a different spring quality and effect. Just hopping from bath to bath, from milky white waters to skin-beautifying baths, is a luxurious experience. The abundant natural environment is also attractive, and in the autumn foliage season the gorge is vividly colored, with overwhelming beauty. There are also plenty of non-onsen activities such as one of Japan's largest footbath facilities, "Yuppo no Sato," and the thrilling "Momijidani Suspension Bridge." The walking paths are neatly maintained, so a walk with family or friends while soaking in negative ions is also recommended. Local specialties of Shiobara such as "Toteyaki" and "soup yakisoba" are also not to be missed. Whether you quietly soothe your fatigue on a solo trip or enjoy nature with family, with easy access from central Tokyo, you can forget daily life and refresh on either a day trip or an overnight stay.
