Located in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, Yubara Onsen is a hot spring resort with abundant hot water welling up along the banks of the Asahi River. Its signature attraction is Sunayu, a mixed-bathing open-air bath with a view of the massive Yubara Dam right before your eyes. Surrounded by rocks, this bath is fed by water that gushes naturally from the riverbed and is open free of charge 24 hours a day, offering an overwhelming sense of openness and oneness with nature. The hot spring town has a nostalgic Showa-retro atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely stroll while enjoying shooting galleries, foot baths, and hand baths. Known as a "beauty bath," the alkaline water feels silky smooth on the skin and is popular with a wide range of visitors, from friends and couples to families. For those uncomfortable with mixed bathing, bathing garments can be rented, and nearby ryokan offer a rich selection of thoughtfully designed private baths.
