ABOUT
About this spot
Kibitsu Shrine is a historic landmark representing Okayama and an ancient shrine known as the roots of the Momotaro legend. The biggest highlight is the National Treasure main hall and worship hall, built in the "hiyoku irimoya-zukuri" style, the only one of its kind in Japan. Its dignified appearance, also called "Kibitsu-zukuri," has an overwhelming presence. Within the grounds is a magnificent 360-meter corridor that gently follows the natural terrain, and you can stroll while enjoying flowers and trees of each season. Especially in early summer when the hydrangeas bloom and in autumn when the leaves change, it becomes a perfect photo spot where historic architecture and nature are in harmony. The mysterious "Narukama Shinji" ritual, which tells fortune by the sound of a cauldron, is still carried on today, letting you feel the depth of history. It is recommended for anyone who wants to recharge in a calm atmosphere, whether on a quiet solo journey through history or sightseeing with friends and family.
