ABOUT
About this spot
Mogami Inari (Mogami Inari-san Myokyoji), known as one of Okayama Prefecture's leading power spots, is a renowned place of prayer with a history of more than 1,200 years. It is a temple rare even in Japan, permitted to keep its form of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism even during the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, so despite having a torii gate, it conveys Buddhist teachings. The biggest highlight is the giant 27.5-meter torii gate towering at the entrance to the approach, whose overwhelming scale is a must-see. Mogami Inari also has a unique way of worship called "Ryoen Mairi," which both cuts ties and forms ties at once. People who wish to cut off past bad ties and draw in new good ones visit from all over the country. The approach has a shopping street with a retro Showa atmosphere, where you can enjoy the famous "yuzu senbei" and local specialties. A charming spot enjoyed by a wide range of people, from families strolling on a weekend to solo visitors quietly tracing history. At New Year's it is crowded with worshippers from inside and outside the prefecture, and you can feel the lively culture of Okayama firsthand.
