ABOUT
About this spot
Standing on the banks of the Asahi River, Okayama Castle is affectionately called "Ujo" (Crow Castle) for its jet-black outer walls. Built by the famed Sengoku-era general Ukita Hideie, the castle underwent a major renewal in November 2022 and evolved into an even more attractive spot. The interior of the keep has been updated with a modern exhibition style, and through video and hands-on content you can learn about the history of Okayama in a fun way. From the top floor you can take in the Asahi River flowing below and the neighboring famous garden "Okayama Korakuen," and enjoying the superb view feels like being a lord. In the castle there is also a free kimono-wearing experience and the "Oshiro Chaya" tea house, where you can enjoy parfaits made lavishly with Okayama fruit, so it can be enjoyed all day not only by history fans but also by friends, couples, and families. For a limited period at night, the illumination event "Ujo Togenkyo" is also held, wrapping the castle in an enchanting atmosphere. Do experience this symbol of Okayama with all five senses.
