ABOUT

About this spot

Shirakawa Suigen, where rain that fell on Mt. Aso wells up from deep underground after decades, is one of Kumamoto's leading power spots. The spring produces about 60 tons of water per minute, and the water is so clear that you can see the sand on the bottom being tossed up by the water pressure when you peer in. The spring is located within the grounds of Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine, and a sacred atmosphere that has long been revered as the home of the water deity hangs in the air. Here you can freely taste freshly drawn water, and you can even take it home in a plastic bottle you bring yourself. The soft, mellow taste of this renowned water is said to be perfect for coffee and cooking. Beautiful walking paths surround the area, making it a perfect place for a relaxed weekend stroll with family or a stop on a drive with friends. Nearby there are also shops selling local specialties and restaurants serving tofu dishes made with the spring water. Enjoy a healing time to detox both body and mind while feeling nature in every season.
