ABOUT

About this spot

Kusasenri-ga-hama, a symbolic attraction of Aso in Kumamoto, is a vast grassland of about 780,000 square meters spreading across a former crater. Before you stands the actively steaming Nakadake, and behind you rises the beautifully ridged Mt. Eboshi, creating a panoramic view of overwhelming scale. In the middle of the grassland are two large ponds formed by rainwater, and the peaceful sight of grazing horses drinking from them has a beauty that makes you forget daily life. In the popular "pony ride experience," you ride a horse led by a staff member for a slow lap around the grassland, so anyone from adults to children can easily feel the Aso breeze. Its face changes greatly with the seasons. From spring to summer it is dazzlingly green, in autumn golden pampas grass, and in winter you may see magical snowscapes and rime ice. Stopping by to stroll during a drive is great, and so is learning about Aso's history at the neighboring cafe or the "Aso Volcano Museum." Whether on a family trip, a date, or a solo journey, it is a wonderful spot that soothes the heart in any situation.
