ABOUT

About this spot

The Amakusa Five Bridges in Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, are a scenic spot that connects mainland Kyushu with the Amakusa Islands via five distinctive bridges. From Bridge No. 1 (Tenmon Bridge) to Bridge No. 5 (Matsushima Bridge), each has a different structure and beauty, and the archipelago scenery of the surrounding "Matsushima" is truly breathtaking. It is also a very popular drive course, commonly called the "Amakusa Pearl Line." The contrast between the blue sea and the green islands dotted across it, seen from the car window, is full of freedom that makes you forget daily life. Particularly recommended is the evening. The area is selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Sunsets, and the sea tinted orange and the silhouettes of the bridges are very romantic. Whether a family drive, a date with someone special, or treating yourself to a leisurely solo view, nearby restaurants serving fresh seafood and hot spring facilities with scenic views are also plentiful, so you can enjoy Amakusa's charm all day long.
