ABOUT

About this spot

Sakura-no-Baba Josaien is a tourist facility at the foot of Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three great castles, where history and food come together. In "Sakura-no-Koji," which recreates an Edo-period castle town, more than 20 shops line the street, offering Kumamoto's local dishes, sweets, and specialties such as basashi (horse sashimi), karashi renkon (mustard lotus root), and ikinari dango, all in one place. At "Wakuwakuza" inside the facility, exhibits using VR footage and projection mapping let you learn about Kumamoto's history with all five senses. There are also transformation experiences where you can dress up as a ninja or a princess, and exciting historical skits, sure to be a hit with families and friends. Between visits to Kumamoto Castle, you can enjoy lunch or snack as you stroll, or pick out souvenirs for loved ones, so there are endless ways to enjoy it. Even just walking through the atmospheric buildings will make you feel as if you have traveled back in time.
