ABOUT

About this spot

Located on the rooftop of the Ikebukuro landmark Sunshine City, this is Japan's first urban high-rise aquarium. With the concept of an 'oasis in the sky,' it offers a space where, even in the middle of the city, you can feel the moisture of water and the brilliance of life with all five senses. The top highlight is the 'Sky Penguins' in the outdoor 'Marine Garden' area. Watching Cape penguins swim in a transparent tank installed overhead feels as if they are flying through the city sky, giving an overwhelming sense of openness and surprise. In the huge 'Sunshine Lagoon' tank, you can watch elegantly gliding rays and colorful fish, and the enchanting jellyfish exhibit 'Kurage Kukan' is hugely popular as a healing spot. It is ideal not only for couples' dates and outings with friends, but also for family trips with children. Because it is inside a shopping mall, you can also enjoy a whole day combined with shopping and dining. Why not spend a weekend refreshing in a cool water space, forgetting the city's bustle?
