ABOUT

About this spot

Located in the heart of Minato Ward, Tokyo, Shiba Daijingu is a venerable shrine founded in the second year of Kanko (1005) during the reign of Emperor Ichijo. Because it enshrines the two principal deities of Ise Jingu, it has long been revered by the people of Edo as the "Ise Shrine of the Kanto region." Though it stands among the office buildings, a solemn atmosphere awaits at the top of the stone steps, making it a popular refreshing spot that lets you forget the city's bustle. In particular, the Goun-mamori, said to be "even stronger than ordinary good luck (kyoun)," is an amulet made in the year's lucky color, and worshippers of all ages come to buy it. Because it is in an office district, many company workers also come to pray. With nearby Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower easily accessible, it is ideal for a weekend stroll with friends or for a quiet moment alone with your thoughts. Why not spend a peaceful time here, feeling the breath of a history stretching back more than 1,000 years?
