ABOUT
About this spot
Standing at the northeastern tip of the Noto Peninsula, the very "end of Noto," Rokkosaki Lighthouse was built in the Meiji era to a design by Japanese engineers. Selected as one of Japan's 50 Best Lighthouses, its white facade, full of historic charm, stands out beautifully against the blue sea and sky. Perched on a cliff about 50 meters above the water, it enjoys completely unobstructed views, and on clear days you can take in a sweeping panorama that stretches all the way to Sado Island and the Tateyama Mountains. Thanks to the way the land juts out into the sea, this is also a rare spot in Japan where both the sunrise and the sunset can be seen from the same coastline. Whether you watch the sun rise from the sea in the quiet of early morning or gaze at the Sea of Japan turning golden at dusk, either one will be an unforgettable experience. The lighthouse is a 10-minute walk up a steep slope from the Roadside Station "Noroshi," but the lawn and the sense of openness waiting at the top are well worth the climb. Whether you are on a family drive, a romantic outing, or a solo trip of reflection, this is a breathtaking scenic spot we can wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.
