ABOUT

About this spot

Shiroyone Senmaida in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, was selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Terraced Rice Fields and is a signature scenic area of the Noto Peninsula. The landscape of small paddies layered again and again toward the blue sea is simply breathtaking. Its beauty has led to its designation as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. Its charm is the different face it shows in each season: in spring the flooded paddies mirror the sky, in summer the rice is lush and green, in autumn it becomes a golden carpet, and in winter you can enjoy its quiet snow-covered form. In particular, do not miss the illumination event "Aze no Kirameki," held every year from October to March. More than 20,000 LEDs light up the ridges of the terraces, creating a magical night view. At the adjacent roadside station "Senmaida Pocket Park," you can enjoy rice balls made with rice harvested from the terraces and Noto specialties, making it ideal for a drive break. Why not spend a luxurious time feeling the original landscape of Japan, with family and friends, or slowly on your own?
