ABOUT
About this spot
Kenroku-en, a leading tourist destination in Kanazawa, is one of Japan's Three Great Gardens, alongside Kairaku-en in Mito and Korakuen in Okayama. Created over many years by successive lords of the Kaga domain, the garden is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Its spacious grounds are dotted with large ponds, artificial hills and teahouses, and it is characterized by a "pond-strolling" style in which you stroll around and take in the views. The expressions of the seasons are all beautiful: cherry blossoms in spring, azaleas in early summer, vivid autumn foliage, and in winter, fantastical snowscapes with "yukitsuri," the rope supports that are a signature of the Hokuriku region. The two-legged "Kotoji Toro" lantern, the symbol of Kenroku-en, is an especially popular photo spot. Whether strolling quietly alone or walking with family and friends while reflecting on history, it will be a special time away from everyday life. Since it adjoins Kanazawa Castle Park, we recommend visiting the two together.
