ABOUT
About this spot
The Nagamachi Samurai Residence District in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is an area rich in historic atmosphere where the former residences of Kaga Domain samurai still remain. Step inside and the traditional earthen walls, stone-paved lanes, and the murmur of the Onosho Canal surrounding the residences carry visitors back to the Edo period. The highlight of a stroll is the publicly open "Nomura Family Residence." Its beautiful Japanese garden is highly rated even by overseas garden magazines, and the lush green view from the veranda is exceptional. In winter, "komogake," in which straw mats are hung to protect the earthen walls from snow, is carried out, letting you enjoy a seasonal feature unique to Kanazawa. Kutani ware galleries and charming cafes are also scattered nearby, making it ideal for a relaxed walk while feeling history. It is recommended for soaking in history quietly on a solo trip, or for taking photogenic photos in kimono with friends. Feel the stylish culture of Kanazawa, a castle town, on your skin.
