ABOUT
About this spot
Wakura Onsen, located at the base of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, is known as a "sea hot spring," rare even in Japan. It is said to have been discovered about 1,200 years ago when a white egret was seen healing its wounds there, and its salt-rich waters are reputed to be "beautifying" and to "retain heat well." The hot spring town facing the broad Nanao Bay is lined with everything from some of Japan's finest luxury ryokan to homey inns, where you can spend a luxurious time looking out over the calm sea from your room. When strolling the town, we recommend the Soyu (public bath), which anyone can use easily, and the free foot bath "Yuttari Park," which lets you enjoy the sea view. The hot spring egg experience, made using the heat of the hot spring, is also popular with tourists. It is the perfect hot spring resort when you want to be soothed to your heart's content in the sea breeze, such as on a weekend family trip, a girls' trip, or an anniversary with someone special. Do not miss the gourmet dishes where you can savor Noto's fresh seafood.
