ABOUT
About this spot
Sandanbeki, a leading scenic spot of Nanki-Shirahama, is a place where the beauty of nature's craftsmanship lives, with columnar-jointed cliffs 50 to 60 m high stretching for about 2 km. From the observation deck, you can witness the dynamic sight of the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean crashing violently against the rock face and throwing up pure white spray. Particularly recommended is the "Sandanbeki Cave," which you reach by taking a dedicated elevator down 36 m underground. It is said to be the place where the hidden ships of the "Kumano Navy," which played an active role in the Genpei War, were kept. The seawater rushing into the cave and the rumbling sound of the waves are overwhelming. It is also known as a power spot where Benzaiten is enshrined. The plaza also has a "Sacred Place for Lovers" monument, a popular photo spot for couples. After your stroll, relax in the "Sandanbeki Ashiyu" foot bath with a view of the sea, feeling the ocean breeze. Come with family or friends to feel the energy of grand nature.
