ABOUT

About this spot

Zampa Misaki Lighthouse is known as the last place on the main island of Okinawa where the sun sets. The pure white lighthouse, standing out against the blue sea and sky, is loved as the symbol of Yomitan Village. As one of Japan's few "climbable lighthouses," it rewards you at the top of its 99-step spiral staircase with a 360-degree panorama. The surrounding area has sheer cliffs running for about 2 km, and the sight of waves crashing and spraying is stunning. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Kerama Islands, and at dusk you can enjoy a romantic scene with the whole sea dyed gold. Adjoining the grounds is Zampa Misaki Park, with the world's largest shisa statue, Zampa Daishishi, plus play equipment and a cafe, making it ideal for families, drives with friends, or solo refreshment. Why not immerse yourself in the openness unique to Okinawa, feeling the sea breeze?
