ABOUT

About this spot

Hennazaki Lighthouse stands at the tip of Higashi-Hennazaki, a beautiful cape extending about 2 km at the southeastern end of Miyakojima in Okinawa Prefecture. Known as one of only 16 "climbable lighthouses" in Japan, it rewards you at the top of its 97-step spiral staircase with a view that leaves you speechless. Below, a richly graded sea mixing emerald green and cobalt blue spreads out, dotted with huge strange rocks carved by waves, a rugged yet beautiful scene that is truly stunning. Gazing at the horizon in all directions, you can feel the roundness of the Earth. The surrounding walking path, selected as a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty, is well maintained and recommended for a stroll in the sea breeze. In early spring, Easter lilies bloom in profusion and make a beautiful contrast with the white lighthouse. It is perfect for drives with family or friends, and for solo travelers who want to quietly gaze at the sea. When you visit Miyakojima, this is a must-see landmark of the island.
