ABOUT
About this spot
Shukkei-en, in central Hiroshima right next to the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum, is a historic daimyo garden built in 1620 by Asano Nagaakira. Its name comes from the way it condenses and expresses many scenic views in miniature. Small and large islands, bridges and tea houses are skillfully arranged around the central pond, Takueichi, so you can enjoy the beauty of a "stroll" garden where the scenery changes with every step. Its charm is the rich variety of nature through the year: Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green in summer, vivid autumn leaves in autumn, and plum blossoms in winter. For a weekend stroll, you can feed the carp in the pond with your family, take photos with friends, or quietly look out over the garden while sipping matcha alone, spending time as you please. Rebuilt after the damage of the atomic bombing, this place continues to give visitors gentle comfort, together with prayers for peace.
