ABOUT
About this spot
Set in Hiroshima Central Park, the Hiroshima Museum of Art was established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Hiroshima Bank and feels like an oasis in the city. Imbued with prayers for the victims of the atomic bombing and the wish "For Love and Peace of Mind," this place blends prayers for peace seamlessly with art. The main highlight is its French modern art, a collection among the finest in Japan. Seeing works by masters like Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and Picasso, familiar from textbooks, is spectacular. The many masterpieces, mainly Impressionist, gently soothe visitors' hearts. The corridors surrounding the distinctive circular main building and the courtyard, which shows a different face with each season, make for a luxurious time even if you only stroll. Pausing at the tea salon inside to look out over the garden is also a recommended way to spend your time. Its proximity to Peace Memorial Park and Hiroshima Castle makes it easy to drop in between sightseeing stops. It is ideal for taking your time with the works alone, for a date with someone special, or for a relaxed family trip. Surrounded by fine art and greenery, why not refresh your mind?
