ABOUT

About this spot

Sandankyo, a leading scenic spot in Hiroshima Prefecture, is a great gorge about 16 km long designated a national Special Place of Scenic Beauty. It shows wonderful faces in every season, and is especially stunning during the autumn foliage season. Hiking trails are maintained for everyone from beginners to experts, and the main highlights are the five great sights: Kurobuchi, Sarutobi, Nidan-daki, Sandan-daki and Mitsu-daki. Among them, the "Sarutobi ferry," which takes a small boat between sheer rock walls, is an adventurous experience found nowhere else. The emerald-green clear stream and a space filled with negative ions created by the primeval forest make it a perfect detox spot to forget the bustle of daily life. It is ideal for an active weekend trip with friends, a family stroll, or a solo trip to reflect on yourself. Put on comfortable walking shoes and go feel the mystical energy of nature.
