ABOUT

About this spot

Taishakukyo is one of Hiroshima Prefecture's finest scenic spots, designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by the nation. Its highlights fall into two main areas: Kami-Taishaku upstream and Shinryuko Lake downstream. In the Kami-Taishaku area, the must-see is Onbashi, a huge natural bridge formed by river erosion. Known as a rare natural bridge even by world standards, its overwhelming scale and natural beauty will take anyone's breath away. You can also explore the mysterious underground world of Hakuundo, a limestone cave with a pleasantly cool atmosphere. In the Shinryuko Lake area, sightseeing boats that glide leisurely past the surrounding sheer cliffs are popular. In the autumn foliage season especially, the red and yellow trees reflected on the water are beautiful, drawing many visitors. With well-maintained walking trails, it is also recommended for a walk bathed in negative ions. Whether you come for a family picnic, a couple's date, or a solo trip to quietly commune with nature, it is a soothing spot that can be enjoyed in any style.
