ABOUT
About this spot
Mt. Misen is the symbol of Miyajima, one of Hiroshima's signature tourist destinations. The 535-meter summit can be reached by hiking courses through primeval forest, or easily by ropeway for an aerial stroll. Near the summit is the "Reikado" hall, where the fire said to have been lit by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) during his ascetic training has burned for over 1,200 years, and which is also known as the source of the "Flame of Peace" at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. From the Misen Observatory, you can take in the islands floating on the sparkling blue Seto Inland Sea, a truly breathtaking view. Along the way, giant strange rocks such as "Kuguri Iwa" line the path, and you will be overwhelmed by the mystical landscape created by nature. Because the whole mountain has been protected as sacred ground, its rich nature remains intact, captivating visitors with a different face in every season, from fresh greenery and autumn leaves to the clear air of winter. From active trips with family and friends to quiet solo worship, a special experience that refreshes both body and mind awaits.
