About this spot
The Yamato Museum (Kure Maritime Museum) in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is one of Japan's leading museums, conveying to the present day the history of Kure, which once flourished as the "foremost naval port in the East," along with its shipbuilding and steelmaking technology. The museum's symbol, the "1/10 scale Battleship Yamato," is faithfully recreated from design drawings, photographs, and other materials, and its overwhelming scale and attention to detail amaze all who see it. In the exhibition rooms, through precious original materials such as the Type 62 Zero fighter and the "Kaiten" human torpedo, you can learn deeply about the tragedy of war and the value of peace. There is also a corner where you can experience scientifically how ships work, making it ideal for family trips with children. Whether you want to reflect on history on your own or experience the progress of Japanese science and technology with friends, it is highly recommended. With easy access within walking distance of Kure Station, visiting together with the neighboring "Tetsu no Kujira-kan" is the classic route for sightseeing in Kure.
