ABOUT
About this spot
Jutting sharply into the Pacific Ocean at the southeastern tip of Shikoku, Cape Muroto is a spot certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark where you can feel the dynamism of the Earth. The coastline has a unique landscape of rugged rocks and native subtropical plants. A walking path of about 2.6 km is well maintained, and a stroll in the sea breeze is exceptional. It is also famous as a power spot dotted with sacred sites such as "Mikurodo Cave," where the young Kobo Daishi (Kukai) is said to have trained and received his name. The symbol of the cape, Muroto Misaki Lighthouse, has one of Japan's largest lenses, 2.6 meters in diameter, and its pure white exterior stands out against the blue sea. The sunrise from the horizon and the setting sun are beautiful beyond words. It is ideal for a weekend solo trip or a drive with friends to leave the city bustle and recharge with the energy of nature. Please be soothed by the grand scenery where you can feel the roundness of the Earth.
