ABOUT
About this spot
The Kochi Prefectural Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, located on a hill at Katsurahama, a scenic spot representing Kochi Prefecture, is a place where you can learn deeply about the spirit and footsteps of Sakamoto Ryoma, a patriot of the late Edo period. Following its 2018 renewal, the exhibits have become even richer. Inside, many valuable historical materials among the best in Japan are on display, including handwritten letters Ryoma sent to family and friends. With the latest digital exhibits and video commentary introduced, even those unfamiliar with history can enjoy learning about Ryoma's very human episodes. Beyond the exhibition rooms, the design of the building itself and the view from the rooftop of the main building are major attractions. The majestic Pacific panorama spread out before you recalls the scenery Ryoma himself may have seen. Whether soaking in history on a solo trip, or visiting with family and friends together with a stroll at Katsurahama, it is a classic must-see in Kochi sightseeing.
