ABOUT
About this spot
Kochi Castle is a historic symbol of Kochi, built by Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the first lord of the Tosa domain. Its greatest feature is not only being one of just 12 "original keeps" remaining in Japan, but also that the buildings within the main enclosure are almost completely preserved. In particular, this is the only place in the country where both the keep and the main enclosure palace survive, making it a famous castle of extremely high historical value. From the top floor of the keep, you can enjoy a superb 360-degree view of the Kochi cityscape. The photo point from which you can see the whole keep from Otemon Gate is also popular as a spot that captures the castle's full view beautifully. Kochi Park surrounding the castle bustles as a cherry blossom spot in spring, and you can enjoy beautiful autumn foliage. Nearby, "Hirome Market," where Kochi gourmet food gathers, is also within walking distance, so a route enjoying local cuisine after exploring the castle is recommended. It is a classic sightseeing spot that families, couples, and solo travelers alike can fully enjoy, not to mention history fans.
