ABOUT
About this spot
The Ino Town Paper Museum in Ino Town, Kochi Prefecture, is a facility that carries the culture of Tosa washi, with a history of over a thousand years, into the future. Inside, in addition to a wealth of exhibits on the history and production process of washi, there is a craftsman demonstration corner where you can watch the traditional "nagashi-zuki" technique right before your eyes, and you will be captivated by the delicate yet dynamic movements. Particularly popular is the hands-on papermaking experience, which even beginners can casually try. Under a craftsman's guidance, you make your own postcards or shikishi boards and decorate them with seasonal flowers and grasses to create one-of-a-kind original washi. You can take your finished work home as a travel keepsake, and it is sure to liven up trips with family or friends. The in-house shop also offers many items ideal as souvenirs, such as richly textured stationery, beautiful washi goods, and interior items that brighten daily life. In a calm space where you can touch Japan's traditional beauty and spend creative time, this is a classic spot not to be missed on a Kochi trip.
