ABOUT

About this spot

Asamushi Aquarium, in Asamushi, Aomori City, is one of the largest aquariums in the prefecture. Its biggest draw is without question the dolphin performance. Set to the lively rhythms of the Tsugaru shamisen and Nebuta festival music, the dolphins leap dynamically, a distinctly Aomori production well worth seeing. In the 15-meter-long tunnel tank, exhibits recreate the local Mutsu Bay, including scallop farming scenes, giving you the strange sensation of strolling beneath the sea. Adorable spotted seals and Humboldt penguins, along with a diverse array of aquatic life from around the world, ensure you never get bored. The entire facility is indoors, so you can enjoy a comfortable visit all year round, whatever the weather. The Asamushi Onsen hot spring town is nearby, so combining a visit with sightseeing is also recommended. For families, dates, or a quiet healing time on your own, this is a classic sightseeing spot enjoyed by all ages.
