ABOUT

About this spot

Cape Tappi, at the tip of the Tsugaru Peninsula, is one of Aomori's leading scenic spots, where you can experience the rugged yet beautiful landscape of the sea. Known as the "Cape of Wind" for its strong winds, on clear days you can see the Matsumae Peninsula of Hokkaido clearly across the Tsugaru Strait. The top highlight is Japan's only "Stairway National Route" (National Route 331). Famous nationwide as a national route that cars cannot drive on, the view of its 362 steps makes an excellent photo spot. The monument to Sayuri Ishikawa's famous song "Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki," which plays loudly when you push a button, is also a unique attraction loved by many visitors. The walking paths developed around the white Tappi Lighthouse are ideal for a solo stroll or a drive with friends and family. The historic Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museum is also next door, so you can enjoy both nature and history at this spot filled with the romance of the far north.
