ABOUT
About this spot
This museum is distinguished by its unique trench-like structure and pure white geometric exterior, reminiscent of the excavation site at the neighboring Sannai-Maruyama site. The original spatial design by architect Jun Aoki is itself as beautiful as a work of art. Inside is the giant sculpture "Aomori-ken (Aomori Dog)" by Yoshitomo Nara, a world-renowned artist from Aomori Prefecture, whose expression changes with the season and weather, making it a must-see photo spot. The Alecko Hall, where four huge backdrop paintings by Marc Chagall for the ballet "Aleko" are displayed, captivates visitors with its overwhelming scale. In a refined space you can touch the deep worldviews of artists connected to Aomori, such as Shiko Munakata and Shuji Terayama, making it ideal for quietly honing your sensibility alone or strolling leisurely with friends or family. With a good museum shop and a cafe serving local ingredients, you can enjoy art with all five senses throughout the day.
