ABOUT
About this spot
Osorezan, on the Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture, is counted among Japan's Three Great Sacred Places and is a leading power spot. The scent of sulfur from volcanic activity fills the air and rugged rocky ground continues in a "hell"-like landscape, and in contrast the serene beauty of Lake Usori, with its clear blue water reminiscent of the "Pure Land of Paradise," is a one-of-a-kind sight. Within the precincts are four bathhouses long known as hot spring healing places, and worshippers can bathe free of charge. The strong sulfur springs will cleanse body and mind. It is also famous for the "itako" mediums' spirit-summoning performed at the summer grand festival and autumn visits, letting you touch Japan's deep spiritual culture. It is recommended for those who want to face themselves quietly alone, or those who want to enjoy history and scenery with friends. Why not have a special experience, as if your soul were being cleansed, in an extraordinary silence that makes you forget daily life?
