ABOUT
About this spot
Towada Art Center, located on the main street "Kancho-gai Dori" in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, is a place where you can experience the appeal of contemporary art with all five senses. Its greatest feature is its original design by architect Ryue Nishizawa, in which individual galleries stand independently as "houses for art" and are connected by glass corridors. The museum permanently displays works by artists active around the world. In particular, the giant female figure "Standing Woman," nearly 4 meters tall, and the eye-catching, brightly colored sculptures by Yayoi Kusama have an overwhelming presence that astounds visitors. Art overflows outside the museum, too, and you can freely view works in the park across the street and along the sidewalks. The whole town feels like a gallery, and a big appeal is that you can casually touch art while strolling. Whether it is a leisurely weekend of honing your sensibility alone, or going around taking photos with friends or a partner, this is a place where you can spend an extraordinary time full of surprise and emotion.
