ABOUT
About this spot
Located in the heart of Aomori City, the Aomori Gyosai Center, affectionately known as Furukawa Market, is a lively market with one star attraction: "nokke-don," the dish that has become synonymous with Aomori cuisine. The way it works is simple. First, buy meal tickets at the information counter and exchange one for a bowl of rice at a shop with a red sign. Then wander freely through the market and trade your tickets at any of the roughly 30 participating stalls for toppings to pile onto your bowl: fresh local tuna, scallops, and salmon roe, as well as side dishes and meats unique to the area. Chatting with the market vendors, asking "What do you recommend?", while building your very own custom bowl makes for a wonderful travel memory. The market also has rest areas, so you can enjoy your freshly made creation on the spot. Just a five-minute walk from Aomori Station and open from 7:00 a.m., it is also ideal for breakfast before a day of sightseeing. Whether you are showing off your toppings to friends or quietly pursuing your ultimate bowl alone, this is a must-visit Aomori attraction that people of all ages can enjoy.
