ABOUT

About this spot

Just a short walk from Hakodate Station, the Hakodate Morning Market is a lively sightseeing spot where the bounty of Hokkaido's seas gathers in one place. About 250 shops line up across roughly 10,000 tsubo, offering everything from fresh crab, salmon and salmon roe to farm produce and souvenirs. The greatest joy is, of course, the superbly fresh food. At the famous Donburi Yokocho Market, you can enjoy lavish seafood rice bowls piled high. At the 'Ganso Ika Tsuri Hori' squid fishing pond in Ekini Ichiba, you can even have the squid you catch prepared as sashimi on the spot. The crunchy, unique texture and sweetness of the translucent squid are a luxury only found at the source. Open from early morning until early afternoon, it is perfect for breakfast or an early lunch. Why not enjoy banter with the spirited shopkeepers and taste Hokkaido's rich food culture with all five senses? Easy to enjoy with friends, with family or even on a solo trip, it is a Hakodate sightseeing classic.
