ABOUT
About this spot
Ginzan Onsen, tucked in the mountains of Yamagata Prefecture, is a hot spring resort whose nostalgic scenery makes you feel as if you had wandered into a movie. Along both banks of the Ginzan River stand multi-story wooden ryokan inns built in the Taisho to early Showa periods, incorporating elements of Western architecture, and their beautiful appearance is highly popular both in Japan and overseas. At dusk, the gas lamps placed around town are lit, and the town is wrapped in an even more fantastical atmosphere. In winter especially, the contrast between quietly falling white snow and golden light is beautiful, and a breathtaking view spreads out. During the day we recommend enjoying local street food such as the famous "yaki cocoa," "standing tofu" and "curry bread," or relaxing in the free foot bath along the river. At the back of the hot spring town is Shirogane Park, where you can also stroll while viewing the impressive "Shirogane Falls." It is an ideal spot for all generations who want to forget daily life and spend quiet time, whether on a girls' trip with friends, a couple's date, a family trip, or a solo reward trip for yourself.
