ABOUT

About this spot

Standing along the coast of Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Kamo Aquarium is a 'mecca of jellyfish' known for one of the world's largest jellyfish exhibits. With a dramatic history of overcoming a crisis of closure thanks to jellyfish, it is now affectionately called the 'Jellyfish Dream Hall.' The top highlight is the 'Jellyfish Dream Theater,' a circular tank 5 meters in diameter. Watching about 10,000 moon jellyfish sway in the tank, lit in blue in the darkness, gives a magical feeling as if you had wandered into space or the deep sea. It is also a hit on social media, and silhouette photos taken in front of the tank are very popular as a photo spot. More than 50 kinds of jellyfish are always on display, and you can closely observe their delicate colors and mysterious ways of life. Beyond jellyfish, do not miss the fish of Shonai's rivers and sea, and the explanation corners for adorable sea lions and seals. The restaurant serves unique food found only here, such as 'jellyfish ramen' and 'jellyfish soft serve.' We sincerely recommend it to those who want to be healed on a solo trip, and to those who want to be surprised on a date or family trip.
