ABOUT

About this spot

Ikaho Onsen, one of Gunma's most famous hot springs, is a renowned bath with a long history, even mentioned in the Man'yoshu. The 365 stone steps that run through the center of town are the symbol of the hot spring resort, and souvenir shops, restaurants, and shooting galleries line both sides, creating a nostalgic Showa-era retro atmosphere. Ikaho's greatest feature is its two unique springs. The iron-rich, brown "Golden Water (Koganenoyu)" warms you to the core and is also known as a water for fertility. The "Silver Water (Shiroganenoyu)," which began flowing in recent years, is colorless, transparent, and gentle on the skin, and is popular with women as a beauty bath. At the top of the steps stands Ikaho Shrine, known as a god of matchmaking, and further on is Kajika Bridge, beautiful in every season. The autumn illumination is a must-see. From Ueno-yama Park, reached by ropeway, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Akagi and the Tanigawa range, which is also recommended for those who like to be active. Whether you take a leisurely solo spa stay or stroll the steps in yukata with friends and family, it is a spot where you can spend a luxurious holiday in your own style.
