ABOUT

About this spot

Mount Myogi is one of the Three Mountains of Jomo that represent Gunma Prefecture. Its defining features are its sharply carved, rugged rock faces and countless strange rock formations that pierce the sky. Counted among Japan's Three Great Scenic Wonders, it is especially stunning in the autumn foliage season, when blazing reds contrast with the steep rock. The thrilling courses are popular with mountaineering enthusiasts, but even beginners can enjoy Myogi Shrine at the foot of the mountain, with its splendidly carved shrine buildings and historic atmosphere. The surrounding area is also rich in attractions, including Nakanotake Shrine, home to an enormous Daikoku statue, and Michi-no-Eki Myogi, a roadside station selling local specialties. Why not visit on a weekend drive or to refresh yourself, and feel the beauty of nature's forms and the weight of history? If you plan to climb, be sure to bring proper equipment and plan ahead.
