ABOUT
About this spot
Spreading out at the foot of Mount Tanigawa near the headwaters of the Tone River in northern Gunma Prefecture, Minakami Onsen is one of the prefecture's leading hot spring areas alongside Kusatsu and Ikaho. Known as the "inner parlor of Kanto" that many literary figures once loved, it offers healing moments as you listen to the murmur of the Tone River. The area has wonderfully varied seasonal faces: fresh green in spring, rafting and canyoning in summer, blazing autumn foliage, and beautiful snowy landscapes in winter. You will find something new whenever you visit. The view of the Tone River gorge from an open-air bath is especially exquisite and perfect for recharging from everyday fatigue. The hot spring town retains a retro atmosphere, with free foot baths, restaurants serving local flavors, and shooting galleries. It suits families and friends, as well as solo travelers who want to relax. With good access from central Tokyo, how about a weekend short trip to be soothed by rich nature and famous hot springs?
