ABOUT
About this spot
Kugenuma Beach is a signature beach of the Shonan area in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. From its broad stretch of sand, you can take in majestic Mt. Fuji and Enoshima together across Sagami Bay, a view that has captivated countless visitors. It is also said to be the "birthplace of surfing in Japan," and surfers gather throughout the year in search of quality waves. With its permanent beach volleyball courts, it is also known as a mecca for beach volleyball, and a lively sports culture has taken root here. In summer the beach bustles with families and young people, while in the off-season you can enjoy a more grown-up time, strolling the sand to the quiet sound of the waves or watching the sun set behind Mt. Fuji. Plenty of stylish cafes and bakeries nearby make it a great place to enjoy a relaxed resort feel on your own, too. With easy access from central Tokyo, it makes a wonderful weekend short trip, whether with friends, family, or a special someone.
