ABOUT

About this spot

The Shinhotaka Ropeway in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, is a popular spot where you can easily experience the majestic nature of the Northern Alps. It uses Japan's only "double-decker gondola," and from the rooftop observation deck of Nishi-Hotaka-guchi Station at 2,156 m, a view spreads out that earned two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japon. Its seasonal faces are another attraction. You will be surrounded by overwhelming beauty whenever you visit: fresh green from spring to summer, red and yellow foliage in autumn, and a silver world in winter. In particular, the winter "Snow Corridor" lets you walk between snow walls several meters high for an extraordinary experience. The summit station also has a cafe and shop, where you can spend a luxurious time viewing the scenery while enjoying the famous freshly baked bread. It is ideal not only for those aiming for serious climbing but also for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to refresh. Come and enjoy on site the moving moment of breaking through the clouds and feeling the famous peaks of the Northern Alps up close.
