ABOUT
About this spot
Gifu Castle, a symbol of Gifu City, was once called "Inabayama Castle" and was the seat of Saito Dosan, a giant of the Warring States period. Oda Nobunaga later captured the castle and renamed the place "Gifu," using it as a stepping stone to unifying the country, deeply carving its name into history. Located at the summit of Mt. Kinka (329 meters), its steep location truly makes it worthy of being called an impregnable castle. The top highlight is the 360-degree panorama from the top floor of the current keep. The clear Nagara River flows below, and the view stretches beyond the Nobi Plain all the way to Ise Bay. At the special night openings held for a limited time from spring to autumn, you can also enjoy a night view of the city that looks as if a jewel box had been spilled out, and it is highly popular as a romantic date spot. You can reach the summit easily by ropeway while enjoying an aerial stroll, and multiple hiking trails are also maintained, attracting many solo travelers and groups who enjoy serious hiking. With the adjoining "Gifu Castle Museum" and the "Squirrel Village" near the summit station, it is a spot packed with attractions, from historical strolls to leisure, that can be enjoyed all day.
