ABOUT
About this spot
Quietly nestled in the mountains of Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, the pond commonly called "Monet's Pond" is a fantastical spot that has drawn attention from around the world through social media. It was originally a "nameless pond" developed by local residents, but its sheer beauty led it to be compared to the paintings of the Impressionist master Claude Monet, and the name stuck. Its greatest charm is the spring water with astonishing transparency. Brightly colored carp swim leisurely through water that lets you see right to the bottom, with water lily leaves floating on the surface adding color. In early summer (late May to around July) in particular, water lilies bloom, and in autumn the surrounding trees turn color and reflect on the water's surface, so you can enjoy its changing faces through the seasons. Because the scenery changes with the way light falls and the condition of the water, you will find something new each time you visit. Nemichi Shrine is right next to the pond, and you can spend a soothing moment in quiet nature. With a camera in hand, why not head out with a dear friend or family to capture a miraculous shot?
