ABOUT
About this spot
Enakyo in Ena City, Gifu Prefecture, is Japan's first man-made lake, created by the Oi Dam, which was built across the Kiso River in the Taisho era. After about 100 years, nature and engineering now blend beautifully, and it is cherished as one of the prefecture's leading scenic spots. The top highlight is the array of strange and fantastic rocks viewed from the sightseeing boat. You can look up at giant named rocks such as Gunkan-iwa (Battleship Rock) and Shishi-iwa (Lion Rock) up close, and their power is overwhelming. About 200 cherry trees bloom in spring, followed by fresh greenery in summer, vivid autumn leaves, and snowy landscapes with visiting waterfowl in winter. The scenery changes throughout the year and offers new inspiration with every visit. Nearby is Enakyo Park with its well-kept walking paths, perfect for a leisurely stroll. It is an ideal spot for a family picnic, a couples' date, or enjoying time alone with a camera in hand. Leave the city bustle behind and come feel the energy of nature.
