ABOUT
About this spot
In 1600, the Battle of Sekigahara saw the Eastern Army led by Tokugawa Ieyasu clash with the Western Army led by Ishida Mitsunari. The site of that decisive battle is the Sekigahara Battlefield. In the vast basin, camp sites of famous warlords, such as "Mt. Sasao," where Ishida Mitsunari set up camp, and Tokugawa Ieyasu's "final camp site," remain scattered with their old appearance. Stone monuments and banners stand at each spot, and part of the charm is the feeling of having traveled back to the Sengoku period. In 2020, the "Gifu Sekigahara Battlefield Memorial Museum" opened. With a theater using the latest video technology and hands-on exhibits, you can learn the flow of the battle more deeply and vividly. It is ideal for a solo trip for history fans, a family trip combined with learning at the museum, and a trip with friends as a walking course through rich nature. Renting a bicycle to visit the camp sites efficiently is also recommended. At this turning point of history, why not reflect on the thoughts of the warlords of the time?
