ABOUT

About this spot

Hida-Furukawa is a quiet, composed town that stands apart from the bustle of neighboring Takayama. Its greatest charms are the roughly 500-meter stretch of the "White-Walled Storehouse District" and the Seto River that flows alongside it. Brightly colored carp gliding lazily through the crystal-clear water make for a beautiful scene that has come to symbolize the town. The town is also known as one of the models for the setting of the hit animated film "Your Name." and has become a popular pilgrimage destination for fans who visit the station and library that appear in the movie. As you stroll, you will pass old houses with magnificent beams and carvings that showcase the skill of Hida's master carpenters, giving you a real sense of the depth of the town's history. Sake breweries producing prized local brews, traditional Japanese candle shops, and restaurants serving Hida beef are scattered throughout, making it ideal for a refined solo trip, a getaway with friends, or a leisurely family stroll. In winter, the town is blanketed in deep snow and holds the "Sanji Mairi," a candlelit pilgrimage to three temples, and the enchanting scenery of each season is a delight in its own right.
